My favourite childhood story? From my childhood or from story books? My absolute favourite from story books is Winnie-the-Pooh and especially the tiddly-pom song and the story about trying to get the honey by floating up next to the tree on a balloon. From my childhood, I’d have to think about that. Nothing immediately springs to mind, which probably is a whole lot more revealing than I should post, lol
Winnie the Pooh – takes a lot of beating, Tamsyn! Thanks for joining in and sharing here xo
Hi Julie my favourite childhood story is The Lion The Witch And The Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis. I love the whole Narnia Chronicles but this book was and still is my favourite one. The children are so human and so lovable, faults and all and Aslan is like the mighty protector, keeping all his friends on the right path and offering his guidance and protection when needed. The thought of children having to fight in a war is horrifying but as a child I loved how courageous they were. Obviously the thing I loved best was the ‘Magic’, Who wouldn’t want to discover a secret portal to a magical world? β¨
Oh Kerry, I loved this, too and couldn’t wait to read the Narnia series to my boy when he was old enough! Such magic in the tale. Thanks for sharing! xo
I had many favorites, but I remember really loving the book Charlotte’s Web. The characters were dynamic and there were so many themes in the book. But the biggest theme was love and the love and friendship between the three main characters (Fern, Wilbur and Charlotte) and how love makes us happy.
I remember listening to an audio version of this book whilst traveling home one night with my husband and son. I remember it was pitch dark outside and the story helped us pass the time on the long journey – thanks for prompting that memory, MaryJo xo
One of my favorite memories: during the summer my neighbor girlfriends would swim in each others pool, going from one to the other and in between we would lay on our towels on the sidewalk to get warmed up again before we went into the next pool!
This sounds like my kinda summer, Ruth! Thanks for sharing xo
I loved all stories as a child. My favorites were the bedtime stories that my dad made up for me about all my toys and the adventures they had with a little girl who was very like me! When I was ten dad had to go into hospital and he recorded a set of these stories on a tape for me. Sadly he died when I was 12, and 26 years later that tape is still one of my most precious possessions <3
Christina, this is such a great story – and you still have that tape – wow! So precious! Thanks for sharing here xo
I loved the Little House on the Praries. Series
So did I! Thanks for sharing, Margaret π xo
When I was a wee girl my baby brother (4 years younger) and I looked so much a like that people often mistook us for each other and we would pretend to be the other given any opportunity. It was so much fun to mix people up – until they figured it out!
I lost my brother a little over a year ago and this has been on my mind lately when I think of him. Thanks Julie for the opportunity to say it ‘out loud’.
Oh my lovely, I am sorry for your loss – this is a wonderful memory to hold on to, and share! Thanks for joining in and sharing here xo
Thank you for sharing your tender moments re your mom. Grief can be tough and very present in these times of deep rememberance.
Thank you too for choosing to continue to celebrate with a kind giveaway.
My favourite childhoold story is the Princess and the Pea. I am just the sort of person that would feel a pea under several mattresses and my family all laugh at me for that!! It is a sweet and gentle story.
Thanks Sheila! I loved, loved, loved the Princess and the Pea when I was little π Thanks for joining in and sharing your story xo
My favorite childhood story was hearing about my parents’ first date. They went to see “Gone with the Wind” at the drive-in with another couple. I would ask my mom to tell it over and over again. She would indulge me, telling me every little detail of the night. She died this past April, but I remember the story and will continue to hold it in my heart and pass it down to her grandchildren. π
Oh Melissa, I’m so sorry you lost your mum. My heart to yours. Such a lovely romantic story to share – thank you! xo
My favorite story was the little engine that could. I remember thinking I wanted to be like that.
Bless. I’m not familiar with this story, but your short statements here evoke quite a lot! Thanks for sharing xo
Alice in Wonderland!
Classic! Down the rabbit-hole π Thanks for sharing xo
My favorite childhood story was from a book – a girl who could travel in time and met a new friend. An almost-love story, hehehe. π Thanks for this opportunity!
Time-travel appeals to me big time, Lindsay! Thanks for sharing your story here π xo
I loved so many but especially Enid BlyTon.. Magic Faraway Tree.. Such a magical book!
Definitely a favourite of us here, Sharon! Enid Blyton FTW π Thanks for sharing xo
My favourite was Rudyard Kiplings’ “Jungle Book”, I envied Mowgly and how free he was!
I also had a wonderful book when I was learning to read: the story of a little koala leaving Melbourne zoo in a hot air balloon and travelling around the world. I have no stopped loving stories and reading since then!
Lots of animals in there for sure, Myriam! Thanks so much for joining in and sharing your story xo
My favorite childhood story…hmmm…my grandparents adopted me when I was very young and, while I knew, to me they were my parents in every way. While all of my friends had young, outgoing parents, mine were much older, daddy having been wounded in WWII & in Korea, so they were far from typical parents. They gave me every opportunity possible and, even though they physically couldn’t sit on hard bleachers, especially Daddy, they never held me back from any activity I wanted to pursue. I found my love in cheerleading and made the squad from 6th grade all the way through my senior year. When we’d cheer at out of town games it would often be midnight or 1am before we made it back to town. It never failed, there sat my Daddy in the parking lot in his big ol’ land-yacht of a car, waiting on me. He might not be able to sit in the hard stands but he was always happy to be there waiting for me, no matter the time of day, and never complained one iota. That was love. Man, I miss my Dad.
Such a loving story, Barb – thank you so much for sharing it with me xo
As a child (though not such a small one) my favourite stories were the famous five stories by Enid Blyton (actually I pretty much devoured anything by Enid Blyton – Secret Seven, Mallory Towers etc) I think that’s where my love of murder mysteries began!
Another Enid Blyton fan – yay! Truly, Karen it warms my heart to share this history π Thanks for joining in and sharing your story! xo
I don’t remember much of my childhood. I remember my mom telling me a story I loved but have never been able to find it. Its about an old woman trying to get her pig to market. I also loved I know and old lady who swallowed a fly.
As an adult I read children literature a lot. I loved Madelaine L’Engle’s Wrinkle in Time series.
Kate, I wish I could help you find out the name of that childhood favourite! Thanks for joining in and sharing your story xo
My favourite childhood story, when I was really young was the Wishing Chair Adventures by Enid Blyton. I loved the magical lands they visited with pixies and fairies and often sat in my grandmother’s great big armchair imagining I was off on an adventure too. They were mainly read to me by that most beloved grandmother, who practically raised me, and I think that’s what makes them extra special. When I was a little older and reading for myself I devoured the Secret Seven novels by Enid Blyton and all her Adventure in.. books (was loyal to the Seven and never read the Famous Five). Was always looking for mystery and adventure – and still am! The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe was the first book I read with small print and made me feel quite grown up to read it, so it’s extra special too. Sorry for a list, it was too hard to pick just one! (And I could go on…) π
Oh, Sharon – a girl after my own heart – I was an avid Enid Blyton fan, also – although, I only discovered the Wishing Chair and Faraway Tree series when I went looking for books to read to my son when he was wee! Thanks so much for bringing back those memories and sharing your story xo
My favorite childhood story is when I was in like third grade and at recess tripped over the blacktop edge on the playground and busted my chin and had what I remember as pebbles in my chin. At dinner I thought that my father wouldn’t recognize me since my chin was busted up. My family thought that was funny, which I remember feeling puzzled why that would be funny! LOL Susan
Oh, Susan – a busted chin doesn’t sound funny ata ll! Thanks for joining in and sharing your story xo
My favourite childhood story was a book called ‘Panda the Explorer’ by Oda Taro. It features a little Panda who is stuck inside on a rainy day and uses his imagination to have adventures.
Pandas are just such extraordinary creatures, aren’t they? Thanks so much Alana, for joining in and sharing your story xo
Hi, I always loved books from being a little girl. I adored Enid Blyton and had all her Faraway Land books, the Famous Five, Mystery, Mallory Towers and St Claire’s series and just fell into the books. I also adored the Hobbit and The Lord of The Rings trilogy. I remember that not long after I was introduced to The Hobbit, I was very ill and my eyes were too bad for me to read, so my Dad read to me from it and was fantastic at doing Gollum’s voice!! I was 16 at the time, but it was still lovely to lie there and listen to him! My Dad died in 2005, and I still miss him and remember that time.
